Pioneering Delivery Technologies to Drive Industrial Innovation | Professor Wang Jianxun Shares Novel eVLP Gene Delivery System to Empower Breakthroughs in Cell Therapy

On June 7, 2026, the 2026 Annual Academic Conference of the Hematologic Oncology Prevention and Treatment Committee of Guangdong Preventive Medicine Association was held at the Grand Skylight Garden Hotel in Shenzhen. The conference was hosted by the Guangdong Preventive Medicine Association and organized by the Nanshan Hospital Affiliated to Shenzhen University. Themed around innovations in precision diagnosis and treatment of hematologic malignancies and the compliant implementation of cell therapy, the event brought together clinical experts, researchers, and industry representatives from across the province. Through various forms of academic exchange, the conference aimed to deepen industry-academia-research collaboration and promote the standardized development of hematologic disease diagnosis and treatment in South China. Professor Wang Jianxun, Director and Chief Scientist of the Cell Valley Group, was invited to attend and delivered a featured keynote speech titled "High-Efficiency Gene Editing System Mediated by Virus-Like Particles." He comprehensively presented the group's two proprietary technology platforms – the self-developed BaEV retroviral vector and the engineered eVLP pseudoviral particle system – sharing multiple technical achievements that received unanimous praise from attending experts.

At the outset of his speech, Professor Wang Jianxun analyzed the current state of the industry, highlighting pain points such as the high pricing of commercial CAR-T products and the difficulty of achieving clinical breakthroughs in solid tumors. He noted that traditional lentiviral vectors account for over 60% of total cell manufacturing costs, conventional CRISPR electroporation carries off-target risks, and the low transfection efficiency in primary T/NK cells are key factors constraining the large-scale, accessible development of the industry.

Drawing on years of technological achievements by Cell Valley, Professor Wang detailed the advantages of the two core technology platforms. The self-developed BaEV envelope retroviral vector employs a serum-free, suspension, large-scale production process. It achieves ultra-high viral titers even without concentration, with transduction efficiencies exceeding 90% in both T cells and NK cells, significantly reducing cell drug manufacturing costs at the source. The groundbreaking eVLP engineered pseudoviral system breaks through existing technical barriers. These particles carry no viral genetic material and only transiently encapsulate the Cas9 ribonucleoprotein complex for delivery into cells, completely eliminating the risk of random genomic integration. The system enables onestop gene knockout, targeted insertion, and gene modification, facilitating the development of universal armored CAR cells and offering a novel solution to the bottlenecks in solid tumor cell therapy. The group's gene editing research outcomes have been published in Molecular Therapy alongside work by Nobel laureate Professor Capecchi and others.

Concluding his presentation, Professor Wang Jianxun stated that Cell Valley will continue to rely on its dualplatform technology of eVLP and retroviral vectors, closely following domestic regulatory policies for cell therapy, continuously refining its underlying delivery technologies, deepening industry-academia-research-medicine collaboration, and accelerating the industrialization of universal offtheshelf CAR products. Through its selfdeveloped core technologies, the company aims to contribute to the highquality and standardized development of China's cell therapy industry.
